Rs 189m fines imposed in 27,000 food points inspections during 2025

LAYYAH, DEC 31 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) inspected about 27,000 food points during 2025 and imposed fines exceeding Rs189 million on food business operators for violations of food safety laws.
According to a PFA spokesperson, warning notices were issued to 8,980 food business owners, while 1,791 operators were fined across the district. In cases of serious violations, FIRs were registered against 29 food business owners and production at 60 food points was shut down.
During enforcement operations, the authority disposed of 27,465 litres of adulterated milk, 3,736 litres of substandard beverages, 1,308 kg of unhygienic meat, and 430 kg of adulterated spices. Moreover, 2,456 litres of rancid oil and 2,378 kg of various expired food items were also destroyed.
The spokesperson said that immediate action was taken on 193 public complaints received through the food authority helpline, adding that operations against adulteration and unhygienic food practices would continue across the district.
