LAHORE, Dec 30 (APP): Punjab Minister for Labour and Human Resource Muhammad Manshaullah Butt on Tuesday met with leaders of brick kiln workers and assured them of the Punjab government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding workers’ rights and welfare.
Labour Parliamentary Secretary Nawab Sahibzada Muhammad Ghazain Abbasi was also present on the occasion. Leaders of the Muslim League Labour Wing, including Syed Mushtaq, teachers from schools operating near brick kilns, and children attended the meeting.
Addressing the participants, the minister said that Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif is working tirelessly for the welfare and protection of workers across the province. He announced the launch of a special enforcement campaign to ensure payment of minimum wages to brick kiln workers, warning that strict legal action would be taken against any kiln owner found violating labour laws or withholding workers’ dues.
Muhammad Manshaullah Butt said that, under the clear directives of the Chief Minister, exploitation of workers will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He added that the Punjab government is formulating new labour laws aimed at strengthening legal protection for workers and ensuring dignity at workplaces.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to social development, the minister said that child labour at brick kilns will be completely eliminated, and children will be provided with education, skills training, and better future opportunities. He also stressed the responsibility of brick kiln owners in controlling smog and adopting environmentally friendly practices.
To resolve issues faced by brick kiln workers at the grassroots level, the minister announced that district-level committees will be constituted to ensure timely redressal of complaints and effective monitoring. He reiterated that the vision of Chief Minister Punjab for comprehensive workers’ welfare is being implemented in letter and spirit.
Later, the minister cut a Christmas cake along with labour leaders, teachers, children, and other participants.
