PESHAWAR, Dec 30 (APP):Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, on Tuesday expressed satisfaction over the annual performance of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police K9 Unit and praised the professional capabilities of the unit’s officers and personnel as well as their effective security measures.
The spokesperson for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, in a statement said, K9 Unit achieved significant successes during the current year in maintaining law and order, countering terrorism, and protecting sensitive installations.
According to the K9 Unit’s annual performance report, substantial progress was made in stabilizing the security situation across the province through modern professional skills, highly trained dogs, and effective security measures.
The K9 Unit successfully carried out dozens of sensitive operations during bomb disposal and search operations with the help of trained dogs.
During the security of public places, educational institutions, religious gatherings, VVIP and VIP movements, foreign and Chinese nationals, and important government installations, the K9 Unit timely identified suspicious materials and effectively thwarted potential threats.
As a result of operations carried out by the K9 Unit and relevant teams, a large quantity of weapons and explosive materials was recovered, including 64 SMGs, 2 LMGs, 13 repeaters, 202 pistols, 81 rifles, 2 Kalashnikovs, 4 rocket launchers, 4,532 rounds of ammunition, 240 incendiary shells, 2 IEDs, and 7 hand grenades.
A total of 1,185 security duties were performed, including the security of VVIPs, VIPs, and foreign and Chinese nationals, while routine security duties were also carried out on a daily basis. In addition, during search and sweep operations, snap checking, and the security of major public and government events, K9 teams played an effective and key role.
IGP praised the professional performance of the K9 Unit, saying that the K9 Unit is an important pillar of modern policing and is playing an effective role against terrorism and sabotage.
He said that due to trained dogs and skilled personnel, the security of sensitive locations and important personalities has been further strengthened.
The IGP directed that the K9 Unit should continue to further enhance its professional capabilities in the future and, through modern training and facilities, ensure the protection of the lives and property of the public.
The annual performance report reflects that the K9 Unit has played a prominent role in making Khyber Pakhtunkhwa safer with professionalism, discipline, and a strong sense of duty, and this work will continue to be carried out even more effectively in the future.
