LAHORE, Dec 26 (APP): The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore has imposed a complete ban on the use of hazardous plastic and Styrofoam-based products across its premises as part of efforts to curb environmental pollution and promote an eco-friendly lifestyle.
According to an official notification issued by the university administration, the decision has been taken in line with the Government of Punjab’s “Plastic-Free Punjab Pledge” and the ban on plastic bags with a thickness of less than 75 microns.
The notification states that with immediate effect, the use of Styrofoam plates, food containers and cups, plastic cups, plastic bags below 75 microns thickness, and all other substandard and disposable plastic products has been strictly prohibited within the university premises.
The notice further explains that Styrofoam products are non-biodegradable, cause severe environmental damage, and release harmful chemicals when used with hot or oily food. In view of these risks, all food service providers and retail outlets operating at the main campus and sub-campuses have been directed to switch.
The enforcement of the ban will come into effect from December 29, 2025.
