BAHAWALPUR, Dec 25 (APP): Commissioner Bahawalpur Division, Ms. Musarrat Jabeen, inaugurated the Quaid-e-Azam South Punjab Inter-District Hockey Championship 2025 at Matiuallah Hockey Stadium, Dring Stadium.
Addressing the opening ceremony, she said that young players were being provided ample opportunities to advance to the national level, adding that the government, along with divisional and district administrations, was fully committed to reviving the national game of hockey.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Additional Commissioners Nayyar Mustafa and Aamir Nazir Khichi, Additional Deputy Commissioners Captain (retd) Tayyab Sami Khan and Muhammad Tayyab, Divisional Sports Officer Aamir Hameed, as well as other officers, players, and dignitaries. Teams from Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Vehari, and Rahim Yar Khan are participating in the championship.
On the occasion, players presented a guard of honour to the Commissioner Bahawalpur Division, who was formally introduced to all participating teams and players on the hockey ground.
Ms. Musarrat Jabeen stated that sports competitions play a vital role in identifying young talent and promoting the national game. She expressed confidence that the championship would serve as an important milestone in the revival of hockey and would provide talented players with opportunities to move forward.
During the opening ceremony, female karate players presented an impressive demonstration of self-defense and karate skills, which was highly appreciated by the audience and participants.
The opening match of the championship was played between Bahawalpur White and Bahawalnagar, in which Bahawalpur White delivered an outstanding performance and defeated Bahawalnagar by 3–0. A large number of sports enthusiasts were present at the stadium and enthusiastically encouraged the young players.
It is noteworthy that the Quaid-e-Azam South Punjab Inter-District Hockey Championship is being organized under the auspices of the Divisional Administration and the Sports Department Bahawalpur, with the objective of identifying talented players and promoting the national game of hockey.
