HYDERABAD, Dec 25 (APP): Divisional Commissioner Hyderabad, Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi, while extending Christmas greetings to the Christian community, said that the Constitution of Pakistan guarantees fundamental rights to every citizen without any discrimination of color, race, or religion, and that every citizen of the country is fully free to perform religious rituals and celebrate festivals.
He was addressing a Christmas cake-cutting ceremony held at the office of Bishop Samson Shukardin, President of the Pakistan Catholic Bishops’ Conference and Chairman of the Commission for Justice and Peace. Commissioner Abbasi further said that the administration believes in serving citizens without discrimination and that the coordination mechanism will be further improved to resolve the issues of minorities on a priority basis.
Addressing the ceremony, DIG Hyderabad Tariq Razaq Dharejo said that the police are committed to providing services to minorities without discrimination, just like other citizens of Pakistan. Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad Zain-ul-Abideen Memon informed that a meeting had been held with the Christian community in which the provision of facilities according to the schedule of places of worship was discussed. He added that, along with the immediate resolution of their issues, the matters of delays in pensions and salaries of Christian employees have also been resolved.
In their speeches, Bishop Samson Shukardin and other Christian leaders said that the salary issues of Christian employees working in WASA should be resolved immediately. They said that Christmas conveys the message of peace, love, and interfaith harmony. Notables of the Christian community were also present on the occasion.
