SARGODHGA, Dec 25 (APP): A special Christmas ceremony was held at the Catholic Church on University Road in Sargodha on Thursday under the directives of Punjab Chief Minister(CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
According to a spokesperson, Commissioner Sargodha Division Jahanzeb Awan, Regional Police Officer Shahzad Asif Khan, Deputy Commissioner Captain (r) Muhammad Waseem, members of the Christian community, and other citizens participated in the event, which included cutting a Christmas cake and exchanging greetings.
Administrative officers also joined, expressing solidarity with the Christian community.
Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Jahanzeb Awan said the Punjab government fully supports the protection, rights, and religious freedom of minorities.
He added that Pakistan, as envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, is for followers of all religions and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is working to implement this vision.
Regional Police Officer Shahzad Asif Khan assured that strict security arrangements had been made to safeguard places of worship and Christian events, emphasizing that the protection of lives and property of minorities remains a top priority.
Deputy Commissioner(DC) Capt (r) Muhammad Waseem said the district administration is taking all necessary steps for the welfare of the Christian community and called participation in celebrations like Christmas a practical example of mutual respect and brotherhood.
The Christian community welcomed the initiative,expressing gratitude to the Punjab government and district administration for promoting interfaith harmony.
