Minister pays surprise visit to GHSS Haripur

PESHAWAR, Dec 24 (APP): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education, Arshad Ayub Khan paid a surprise visit to Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) No. 1, Haripur on Wednesday.
The school principal, Zafar Abbasi, and Vice Principal, Fawad Hussain, warmly received the minister and briefed him on the institution’s academic activities.
During the visit, the minister inspected the higher secondary section, examination hall, IT lab, filtration plant and interacted with students on academic subjects. He also sat in a classroom as a student, listened to a lecture and appreciated the teachers’ professional competence.
Addressing issues highlighted by the school administration, the provincial minister assured immediate resolution and announced approval for the installation of a solar system, upgradation of the IT lab, renovation of the examination hall and creation of new posts.
He stated that under the School-Based Facility initiative, Government Higher Secondary School No. 1, Haripur has been designated as a Centre of Excellence, where modern facilities and qualified teachers will be provided.
The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to bringing revolutionary changes through education reforms. He informed that recruitment on 16,000 teaching positions will be made with funding of Rs 11 billion, while new classrooms and IT labs will also be established in schools. He further said that 6,000 teachers will be hired on a contract basis, implementation of the rationalization policy is being expedited and teaching and management cadres are being separated to ensure teachers focus on academic duties and to eliminate the culture of favoritism in the education department.
