PESHAWAR, Dec 23 (APP): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to establish new industrial zones to ensure the utilization of surplus electricity in the province.
Under this plan, a total of four new industrial zones, including Special Economic Zones (SEZs), will be developed.
According to sources on Tuesday, the provincial government’s project to generate additional low-cost electricity has been delayed, while there are currently no major industrial units in the relevant areas to consume the extra power. As a result, the government is facing serious challenges in ensuring electricity consumption.
Several meetings have already been held between the Industries Department and the Energy Department to address this issue.
Following recent developments, the KP government has finalized the decision to set up new industrial zones across the province.
A Special Economic Zone will be established in Katlang, while another economic zone will be developed in Swat. Preparations have also begun for the purchase of 470 acres of land for the Special Industrial Zone in Katlang.
At present, industries in the province require only about 400 megawatts of electricity, whereas low-cost power generation projects are expected to produce approximately 1,000 megawatts of additional electricity.
The establishment of new industrial zones is aimed at bridging this gap by promoting industrial growth and ensuring effective use of surplus power.
