BEIJING, Dec. 23 (APP): The second “Belt and Road” Youth and Science Teacher Capacity Improvement Workshop concluded recently, bringing together educators and students from China and Pakistan to explore the frontiers of artificial intelligence (AI) and project-based learning in science education.
Jointly organized by the Children & Youth Science Center (CYSC) of the China Association for Science and Technology and the Khwarizmi Science Society, a Pakistan-based non-profit science association aimed at fostering a science culture in Pakistan’s educational institutions and among the general public, the four-day offline workshop, held from December 10 to 14, followed a series of six successful online sessions between November 26 and December 7, which engaged over 700 science educators and young learners from both countries, CEN reported on Tuesday.
Centered on the themes “AI-Empowered Subject Teaching” and “Project-Based Learning,” the workshop provided a vibrant platform for exchange through hands-on activities, school visits, and expert dialogues. The Chinese delegation visited Crescent Model Higher Secondary School and Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), observing STEM classes and exploring advanced research laboratories.
During the themed seminars, educators from both countries exchanged insights on crucial issues such as energy development and engineering education, deepening mutual understanding of educational innovation in a technological age.
Interactive sessions proved to be the most engaging feature of the workshop. In the “HAMSTER Interdisciplinary Challenge,” mixed teams of Chinese and Pakistani participants tackled tasks such as “Extreme Wheel” and “Spaghetti Racing,” blending creativity with engineering principles. Another session introduced generative AI as a tool to rapidly create teaching materials and enhance curriculum design.
The workshop reached an inspiring climax with the “Xuanyuan Green Energy Vehicle Challenge.” Under the guidance of Chinese teachers, Pakistani students assembled a functional electric vehicle from scratch. Cheers filled the venue as the student-built clean energy vehicle completed its test run – a powerful symbol of sustainable innovation and hands-on learning.
Reflecting on the initiative, Ma Bin, a member of the Chinese teacher delegation with years of educational experience in Pakistan, remarked, “Education is the foundation of people-to-people connectivity, and science and technology are the engines of innovation. We are honored to contribute to this cross-border collaboration to facilitate educators from China and Pakistan to explore advanced ideas and share practical experiences. We look forward to more joint efforts and future development.”
