Five policemen martyred in firing on Karak police van

PESHAWAR, Dec 23 (APP):At least five police officials were martyred when unidentified armed assailants opened fire on a police van in Karak district on Tuesday.
The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Gurguri Police Station.
Police said the attackers suddenly appeared at the scene and targeted the police mobile with heavy firing that resulted in casualties. The police vehicle caught fire following the firing.
Initially, reports confirmed the martyrdom of four officials; however, District Police Officer (DPO) Karak, Saud Khan, later confirmed that all five personnel present in the vehicle embraced martyrdom.
The martyred officials were identified as Shahid Iqbal, Safdar, Arif and Muhammad Abrar.
The DPO said evidence has been collected from the scene and a thorough investigation is underway to probe the incident from all angles.
A search operation has also been launched to arrest those involved.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned this attack on a police vehicle and expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of five police officers. The Prime Minister prayed for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks.
He also extended condolences to the bereaved families.
