PESHAWAR, Dec 22 (APP): An important meeting on railway development was held on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, during which it was agreed to strengthen cooperation between the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and Pakistan Railways.
The meeting decided to construct a new 192-kilometer railway track from Kohat to Kharlachi at an estimated cost of USD 642 million, with a proposed completion period of two years.
The Chief Minister termed the project an urgent requirement, stating that the Kohat–Kharlachi train service would significantly improve travel facilities and boost commercial activities in the region.
Participants also discussed plans to operate modern trains on various railway tracks across the province, while directives were issued to initiate train services in other major cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Officials were instructed to prepare comprehensive plans with clear timelines for all railway-related projects.
The meeting further considered launching a safari train service on the 32-kilometer Jamrud to Landi Kotal railway track.
Discussions were also held on the restoration, cleanliness, and renovation of historic railway stations, along with the development of green belts along railway tracks.
Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to extending full cooperation to Pakistan Railways in the larger public interest.
The meeting was attended by Advisor to Finance Muzammil Aslam, the Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Secretary of Pakistan Railways, and other concerned officials.
