PFA discards 2,22,000 litres adulterated milk, 40,000 rotten eggs

MULTAN, Dec 21 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Multan region released performance report for the years 2024 and 2025, as the authority made inspections of over two lac food outlets during 2025.
According to the report, food inspections increased by 38 per cent in 2025 compared to the previous
year. Legal actions against food adulterators also saw a major rise, with cases registered increasing by 105 per cent.
The authority enforced strict corrective measures, resulting in the closure of 592 food units till improvements marking an 83 per cent increase in corrective shutdowns. During enforcement operations in 2025, PFA teams disposed of 222,000 litres of adulterated milk, 40,000 rotten eggs, and 34,000 kilograms of unsafe meat. Additionally, 14,000 kilograms of expired and prohibited food items and 9,500 litres of substandard cooking oil were destroyed.
Throughout the year, PFA Multan conducted inspections at 207,000 food points, while 88,000 food business operators were issued improvement notices to ensure compliance with food safety regulations. On charges of food fraud and deception, 366 cases were registered.
Violations of hygiene and food safety standards resulted in 19,521 food outlets being fined, with the total amount of fines showing a 21 percent increase compared to 2024.
Director General PFA stated that the improved performance was the result of an effective enforcement strategy focused on safeguarding public health. He emphasized that operations against elements endangering public health would be further expanded to completely eliminate the food adulteration network.
