ISLAMABAD, Dec 19 (APP): The District & Sessions Court of Islamabad on Friday approved the post-arrest bail for YouTuber Sohrab Barkat in a case related to disputed videos and tweets, ordering his release on surety bonds of Rs100,000.
Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah heard the bail application and announced the order after arguments from both sides. The court directed that Sohrab Barkat be released once he submits surety bonds worth Rs100,000.
During the hearing, defence lawyers told the court that the allegations against the accused are still at the investigation stage. They argued that further physical remand was not required and that the accused had already cooperated with the investigation. The court considered the submissions and granted bail after arrest.
Sohrab Barkat was arrested in a case registered by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). The agency filed the case over content shared on social media, including videos and tweets described as disputed by the investigators.
The case relates to material circulated on online platforms that led to legal action under cyber crime laws. The investigation by the NCCIA is ongoing, and the agency is reviewing the content and related digital records.
The court order allows the accused to remain free during the investigation process, subject to the conditions of bail. Further proceedings in the case will continue as the investigation moves forward.
