Institute of Chemistry hosts national and international symposia at UoS

SARGODHA, Dec 19 (APP): The Institute of Chemistry, University of Sargodha, organized a National Symposium on Forensic Chemistry and an International Symposium on Phytochemicals and Functional Foods under Research Arena 2025, drawing wide participation from students, faculty, and subject experts.
The National Symposium titled “Exploring Forensic Chemistry: From Academic Inquiry to Real-World Application” attracted around 280 participants, including PhD, MPhil and BS students along with faculty members from various departments.
Director Institute of Chemistry Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sher, in his opening remarks highlighted that forensic chemistry is a compulsory component of the curriculum, with many graduates serving in professional forensic agencies.
Addressing the symposium, Dean Faculty of Sciences, Prof. Dr. Aamir Ali emphasized the importance of linking academic knowledge with practical applications. Imran Nadeem Khan from the Crime Scene Investigation Unit discussed crime scene management and evidence collection procedures, while Ameer Hur from the National Forensic Agency, Islamabad, elaborated on inter-departmental collaboration in solving complex forensic cases. The event was coordinated by Dr. Naeem Ul Hassan and Dr. Fayyaz ur Rehman.
Later on, the Institute also hosted an International Symposium titled “Phytochemicals as High-Value Ingredients for the Development of Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals,” which was attended by about 120 participants. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sher welcomed the participants, followed by remarks from Prof. Dr. Aamir Ali, who stressed the significance of interdisciplinary research on phytochemicals for students and researchers.
The symposium featured keynote presentations by Prof. Dr. Farooq Anwar, who spoke on phytochemical extraction and nutraceutical applications; Prof. Aouf Abdel Hakeim from Algeria, who discussed the role of phytochemicals in combating multi-drug-resistant bacteria; and Dr. Muhammad Shahid from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, who highlighted advanced extraction techniques and their microbiological relevance. The event was coordinated by Dr. Fayyaz ur Rehman.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas also attended the symposia and emphasized the importance of research-driven education, stating that such academic platforms promote innovation, practical learning, and solutions to real-world challenges.
