PESHAWAR, Dec 19 (APP): Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Information and Public Relations, Shafi Jan, on Friday said that a law under the Ehsaas Rehri Baan Programme would be approved and presented in the provincial assembly to regulate and facilitate street vendors across the province.
Briefing the media about the decisions taken in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet meeting, he said that there were currently around 140,000 street vendors in the province and designated places would be allocated for them in all urban areas.
He said that the cabinet also approved the creation of a new district in Upper Swat, with Matta declared as its headquarters.
Shafi Jan said that to strengthen law enforcement, the cabinet approved grants of Rs17 billion for the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and Rs14 billion for the Special Branch to enhance their capacity. He added that both departments would also be provided with modern weapons and equipment.
The special assistant said that the cabinet had approved the introduction of a digital payment system in the province, adding that in the first phase, 21 out of 170 government services would be digitised.
He further said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had directed the preparation of a surplus budget of Rs220 billion for the next financial year, with a target to achieve the surplus by June 2026.
