PESHAWAR, Dec 18 (APP):Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Tashfeen Haider said Thursday Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Under-21 Games will begin on January 20 in Peshawar where more than 5,000 athletes and officials will take part.
Talking to media at the Peshawar Sports Complex, he said competitions will be held in 35 different men’s sports and 18 women’s sports.
On this occasion, Director Sports Operations Jamshed Baloch, Project Director Arbab Faiz, Chief Coach Shafqatullah, and Administrator Yousaf Afridi were also present.
The DG Sports said that the inauguration of this mega sports event of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be performed by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi.
On the special instructions of the Advisor for Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Taj Muhammad Tarand, all sports trials for the Under-21 Games have been completed at the regional level under the supervision of Secretary Sports Muhammad Asif.
He further said that in team events, the winning team will be awarded Rs. 100,000, while the runner-up team will receive Rs. 50,000. In addition, competitions will also be organized for special persons, including wheelchair cricket and boccia.
The DG Sports said that all arrangements for this major sports event have been completed, and players will be provided daily allowances and kits in a timely manner. Men’s competitions will be held at Peshawar Sports Complex, Hayatabad Sports Complex, Kohat, and Mardan Sports Complex, while women’s competitions will take place at Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex Charsadda, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar, Peshawar Board Ground, and Hayatabad Sports Complex.
In the Under-21 Games, men’s sports will include badminton, table tennis, squash, athletics, volleyball, karate, football, gymnastics, throwball, basketball, boxing, taekwondo, hockey, judo, handball, wushu, archery, jujitsu, tennis, weightlifting, wrestling, snooker, lacrosse, tag ball, mas wrestling, futsal, kickboxing, bodybuilding, full-contact karate, kabaddi, Muay Thai, baseball, tug of war, rugby, and Zurkhaneh.
Women’s sports will include badminton, table tennis, squash, athletics, volleyball, karate, basketball, taekwondo, judo, hockey, netball, cricket, archery, handball, jujitsu, throwball, futsal, and softball.
On this occasion, Director Sports Operations Jamshed Baloch said that players will be provided accommodation, TA/DA, uniforms, shoes, and other equipment. He said that these will be the largest games in the history of the province, with more than 5,000 male and female athletes participating.
He further added that besides the Under-21 Games, Derajat events, the Horse and Cattle Show in Peshawar, Jashn-e-Hazara, a sports festival for orphan children, Buner Gul Da Number Festival, traditional sports, polo, ice hockey, and skating competitions will also be organized.
In addition, six National Junior Championships, a transgender sports event, inter-madrassa competitions, events for persons with disabilities, and a Minority Sports Festival will also be held.
