ISLAMABAD, Dec 18 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police have put five suspects behind bars and recovered a large cache of illegal weapons during an operation carried out under the ongoing “Arms-Free Islamabad” campaign.
An official told APP on Thursday that, under the supervision of SSP Operations Qazi Ali Raza, a police team from Tarnol Police Station conducted a targeted operation and arrested five individuals involved in possessing illegal arms.
During the operation, police recovered five automatic machine guns, a repeater gun, 10 pistols of different bores, bulletproof jackets and a large quantity of ammunition from the possession of the arrested suspects.
DIG Muhammad Jawad Tariq said that Islamabad Police are strictly enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against illegal weapons and the public display of arms. He added that such elements pose a serious threat to public safety and will be dealt with firmly under the law.
He further said that, on the directions of IG Islamabad, operations under the “Arms-Free Islamabad” campaign are being carried out across the federal capital to curb the spread of illegal weapons and ensure the protection of citizens’ lives and property.
Cases have been registered against the arrested suspects, and further investigation is under way.
