4th International Conference on Sustainable Development in Civil Engineering begins at MUET Jamshoro

HYDERABAD, Dec 17 (APP):The three-day Fourth International Conference on Sustainable Development in Civil Engineering, organized by Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, has been inaugurated.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of University of Sindh, Professor Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri, said that the field of civil engineering plays a backbone role in the development of society and the country. Roads, bridges, irrigation systems, railways and similar infrastructure all fall within the domain of civil engineering.
He added that the demand for civil engineering is increasing. Development targets have been announced by the United States, and work is underway to achieve those goals. To attain sustainable development goals, every individual must play their part.
He emphasized that project management planning is a crucial area and that focusing on it is an urgent need of the time. In Pakistan, delays in completing projects on time are a major issue.
Speaking on the occasion, Mehran University’s Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Anil Kumar, said that sustainable development means meeting today’s needs without compromising the future—securing the future while fulfilling present requirements. He noted that the education and industry sectors can jointly make sustainable development possible. Dr. Anil Kumar said the conference would give rise to new ideas and innovations, and he congratulated the organizers.
Conference Secretary Engineer Hafiz Usama stated that a conference on this theme is held every two years. This is the era of digital engineering and robotics, and significant changes are taking place across all engineering disciplines. Papers at the conference will cover irrigation, transportation, urban construction, building modeling, construction materials, and other related topics.
A total of 170 papers have been submitted for presentation, and 13 national and international keynote speakers are participating in the conference.
Conference Chair Professor Dr. Nafees Memon said that papers are being presented on construction, changes brought to industry and construction by artificial intelligence, environmental changes, water, carbon footprints, and other subjects. He added that the conference would prove beneficial for students, researchers, and experts.
Participants included the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Professor Dr. Rizwan Memon; Dean Faculty Professor Dr. Khanji Harijan; Chairperson of the Civil Engineering Department, Dr. Nafees Memon; Registrar of Mehran University, Professor Dr. Nasrullah Pirzada; and others.
On the first day, researchers and experts from the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Finland, Turkey, Malaysia, and Pakistan—representing civil engineering, sustainable development, environmental sciences, and architecture—presented their papers and delivered keynote addresses.
