PESHAWAR, Dec 17 (APP): The Health Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Wednesday reviewed key decisions regarding the Draft Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Policy 2025 during a consultative workshop held at Alexander Fleming Hall, Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar.
The workshop was chaired by Provincial Health Minister Khaliq Ur Rehman, said a press release.
The meeting decided to finalize the KP Health Policy 2025 with a strong focus on strengthening primary healthcare services to ensure the availability of essential health facilities at the community level.
It was agreed that enhanced primary healthcare would significantly reduce the burden on secondary and tertiary healthcare institutions.
The participants endorsed aligning the new policy with emerging health challenges, including the rising burden of non-communicable diseases, lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, climate resilience, Universal Health Coverage (UHC), One Health, and Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) in line with International Health Regulations (IHR).
The meeting reaffirmed the continuation and consolidation of key health sector reforms introduced in recent years, including the Social Health Protection Initiative (Sehat Card), increased autonomy of Medical Teaching Institutions, expansion of Public-Private Partnerships through the KP Health Foundation, strengthened community participation via Primary Health Care Management Committees, and enforcement of quality standards by the KP Health Care Commission.
It was further decided to sustain and effectively utilize the enhanced provincial health budget to improve service coverage, reduce disease burden, and ensure equitable access to quality healthcare across the province, with special emphasis on Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) and other priority areas.
The workshop concluded with a consensus to incorporate technical input from relevant Health Department units and partner organizations, carry out a final technical review, and proceed towards the formal approval and implementation of the KP Health Policy 2025.
