LAHORE, Dec 17 (APP):Vice Chancellor of Punjab University Prof Dr Muhammad Ali on Wednesday emphasized the urgent need to reform Pakistan’s education system on the lines of developed countries, calling for a decisive shift away from rote learning towards skill-based and technology-driven education.
Addressing the 10th International Conference organized by Punjab University’s Hailey College of Banking and Finance (HCBF), the Vice Chancellor said the university was actively transforming students by equipping them with modern skills aligned with future market needs. He noted that rapid technological advancement had also led to emerging risks, including those stemming from natural disasters, highlighting the growing importance of the insurance sector in addressing such challenges.
Dr Muhammad Ali said students were being trained to make informed decisions in accordance with future trends, adding that agriculture was also moving towards mechanization with the use of technology. He advised students to develop relevant skills keeping technological advancements in view and stressed that individuals should be respected on the basis of knowledge and piety rather than power and wealth.
The Vice Chancellor underlined the importance of assessing emerging employment opportunities over the next three years and remarked that insurance coverage was considered essential in Western countries. He also observed that the quality of life available in Pakistan could not be found abroad.
The conference was attended by Chief Operating Officer of IGI General Insurance Muhammad Hasham, Prof Dr Muhammad Ashfaq from Germany, Nizamuddin from the Institute of Chartered Accountants, In-Charge HCBF Dr Iftikhar Ahmed, researchers and a large number of students from various universities.
Speaking on the occasion, Muhammad Hasham appreciated the services of Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali for the development of PU HCBF, stating that one of the best insurance programs in the country was being run at the institution. He said over 100,000 people were employed in the insurance sector and noted that, given Pakistan’s large population, prospects in the sector were highly promising. He added that the insurance industry was expanding alongside the digital economy and stressed the need to verify information while using artificial intelligence tools.
Earlier, In-Charge HCBF Dr Iftikhar Ahmed said that under the leadership of Principal Dr Ahmed Muneeb Mehta, both academic standards and infrastructure at the college had significantly improved. He added that the conference would provide students with valuable insight into emerging trends.
