ANF arrests nine, seizes narcotics worth over Rs 225 million in nationwide crackdown

RAWALPINDI, Dec 16 (APP):The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has arrested nine suspected drug traffickers and seized more than 173 kilograms of narcotics worth over Rs 225 million in a series of operations carried out across the country.
According to an ANF spokesman, the force conducted seven operations targeting drug trafficking near educational institutions as well as domestic, inter-provincial and international smuggling networks.
In an operation near a school in Gilgit, the ANF recovered 450 grams of hashish from an accused, who later confessed to supplying drugs to students of educational institutions.
As part of international drug interdiction efforts, the ANF seized 21.6 kilograms of methamphetamine (ice) soaked in a carpet at a courier office in Karachi’s Clifton area. The parcel was bound for New Zealand, he added.
During another action on Bela Road in Islamabad, 9.6 kilograms of hashish were recovered from a suspect.
In Peshawar, 1.5 kilograms of hashish concealed inside a wooden table were seized at a courier office on Ring Road.
In another incident near Chungi No. 26 in Islamabad, ANF recovered 2.8 kilograms of hashish from a truck and arrested the driver. Meanwhile, 400 grams of ice were seized from two suspects riding a motorcycle near a railway crossing in Rathiyan, Jhelum district.
During inter-provincial operations, ANF officials intercepted a vehicle near Sahianwala Toll Plaza in Faisalabad, recovering 80.4 kilograms of hashish and 60 kilograms of opium, and arrested two accused on the spot.
In a separate operation near the Islamabad Motorway Toll Plaza, 140 grams of cocaine and 140 grams of ice were seized from two suspects.
Cases have been registered under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 1997, and further investigations are underway, the spokesman said, adding that the ANF would continue its crackdown against drug traffickers to curb the menace of narcotics across the country.
