LAHORE, Dec 16 (APP):Under the Punjab Chief Minister’s Initiative Programme, a comprehensive two-year development master plan has been launched to transform the Lahore Arts Council (Alhamra) into a modern, state-of-the-art cultural institution.
A high-level coordination meeting was held to review the project’s progress and ensure smooth implementation of the plan, here on Monday, which has been formulated under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) to upgrade Alhamra’s infrastructure and enhance its literary, cultural and artistic profile in line with contemporary international standards.
During the meeting, the Executive Engineer (XEN) C&W gave a detailed technical briefing to ensure effective coordination among the contractor, C&W officials and project consultants. Renowned architect and design consultant Nayyar Ali Dada briefed Executive Director Alhamra Muhammad Nawaz Gondal on architectural and design features of the project, while internationally acclaimed artist Imran Qureshi has been engaged to contribute to the aesthetic and artistic elements of the renovation.
Executive Director Muhammad Nawaz Gondal said the project would be implemented in three phases with a focus on renovation, upgradation and modernization of Alhamra’s facilities to provide an improved experience for artists and audiences. He said Phase I would include renovation of the Alhamra Art Gallery, Puppet Hall and Alhamra Art Museum at the Cultural Complex.
Phase II will cover Alhamra Hall 1, Hall 3 and both auditoriums at the Cultural Complex, while Phase III will involve upgradation of Alhamra Hall 2 and other allied areas, he added.
The ED said the initiative reflected the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz and the Minister for Information and Culture to promote arts and culture while preserving Punjab’s cultural heritage. He expressed confidence that the project would strengthen Alhamra’s role as a leading cultural institution.
Deputy Director Admin Syed Umair Hassan, Deputy Director Library and Archive Muhammad Arif and Deputy Director Public Relations Subha Sadiq were also present at the meeting.
