RAWALPINDI, Dec 16 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA), in coordination with the Islamabad Food Authority (IFA), has dismantled a major network involved in the production and supply of fake and adulterated milk near Faizabad.
A PFA spokesman said on Tuesday that the raid was conducted at a milk production unit in Muhammadi Colony near Faizabad after prolonged surveillance, resulting in the seizure of four mixing machines used to manufacture counterfeit milk.
He said around 27,000 litres of milk prepared from dry powder and vegetable oil was destroyed on the spot, while officials also recovered 3,200 kilograms of ghee and 2,500 kilograms of dry milk powder from the unit.
According to the spokesman, the adulterated milk was being supplied to different areas of the twin cities, adding that those involved were traced and apprehended following detailed intelligence-based monitoring.
The spokesman said intensified enforcement actions in Punjab had pushed elements of the adulteration mafia towards Islamabad, necessitating coordinated operations by the two food authorities.
He said a strict crackdown against the sale of adulterated milk was continuing across the province as part of an ongoing clean-up drive to eliminate food adulteration networks.
