ISLAMABAD, Dec 15 (APP):The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday served notices to National Database Regulatory Authority (NADRA) on a petition filed against blockage of citizen’s CNIC.
IHC’s Justice Arbar Muhammad Tahir heard the case filed by a resident of Quetta province Asghar Ali seeking activation of his CNIC.
During the hearing of the case, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir asked the petitioner’s lawyer where he came from? To which the lawyer replied that he came from Quetta and his client’s identity card was blocked by NADRA.
The court asked why the petitioner had come to the Islamabad High Court, is there no High Court in Balochistan? The petitioner’s lawyer took the stand that NADRA had blocked the identity card and NADRA’s headquarters is located in Islamabad, hence the petition was filed in the Islamabad High Court.
On this occasion, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir remarked that the Balochistan High Court can also hear matters related to NADRA’s jurisdiction. However, the court said that currently, NADRA is issued a notice and sought a response.
Later, the court issued a notice to NADRA on the petition regarding the restoration of the citizen’s identity card and adjourned the hearing until next week.
