Dr Asif Jah concludes distinguished tenure as FTO

LAHORE, Dec 15 (APP):A dignified farewell ceremony was held at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in honor of Federal Tax Ombudsman Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah upon completion of his tenure.
On this occasion, the launch of his book “Ombudsman’s Diary” was also held. Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah presented an appointment letter to LCCI President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol, appointing him as Honorary Coordinator for Business Liaison with the Federal Tax Ombudsman.
The ceremony was attended by LCCI President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol, Vice President Khurram Lodhi, Executive Committee Member Firdous Nisar, renowned cartoonist Javed Iqbal, Mian Zahid Javed, Faiz Ahmed Ranjha, Basit Khan, Qamar Ahmed, former and current chamber office-bearers, business leaders, journalists, and representatives of civil society. A documentary highlighting the role of LCCI and the Federal Tax Ombudsman was also screened.
In his address, LCCI President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol said that the tenure of Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah would be remembered as a golden chapter in the history of the Federal Tax Ombudsman. He noted that the complaint resolution rate exceeded 92 percent, with decisions completed on average within 40 days. He said that although Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah is retiring from his office tomorrow, this marks not an end but the beginning of a new and bright journey. His experience will continue to benefit future officers.
Speaking on the occasion, Federal Tax Ombudsman Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah said that he began his tenure with the slogan “Respect the Taxpayers” and remained committed to this principle throughout his four-year term. He said that he and his advisers visited remote areas to ensure justice for taxpayers. He added that many of his decisions were made against institutions, but merit was always given priority. He revealed that compared to the period from 2000 to 2021, a record number of decisions were made during his short tenure, billions of rupees in refunds were issued, and officials who harassed taxpayers were compelled to issue public apologies. He also shared that he was awarded the Presidential Award twice and served Pakistan with honesty and integrity throughout his career.
LCCI President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol also paid tribute to Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah’s social services, stating that his NGO, Customs Healthcare Society, played an exemplary role during natural disasters, earthquakes, and floods. He said that Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah is a symbol of hard work, integrity, and public service, and a guiding light for society.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah was presented with an honorary shield by LCCI, while participants warmly appreciated and acknowledged his services.
