Design & E-Commerce Centre to be set up at PIFD

LAHORE, Dec 14 (APP):The first ever state of the art “Design and E-Commerce Centre of Excellence”will be established at Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design (PIFD) with a seed money of Rs 241 million to exclusively promote design exports in emerging global markets.
This was disclosed in the maiden meeting of the Board of Industrial Collaboration to Enhance Fashion Exports (BICEFE) chaired by its newly appointed Chairperson Mian Kashif Ashfaq here Sunday.
The chairperson said, total volume of global fashion industry is over three thousand billion dollars and nearly 3.8 billion people are associated with this trade worldwide while Pakistan’s share despite vast potential is even less than one percent. He said, federal government realising the situation finally decided to exploit the export potential of fashion and design industry and established the board  to translate the dream into reality by producing highly skilled local artisans in the centre of excellence. The centre will be functional in three years by June 2028.
Unfolding the salient features of the centre, he said, it aims to create service-oriented and design-specific solutions for the industry and contribute towards the economic growth. Contemporary designs popular in global markets will be developed on modern scientific matching in line with  consumer liking. He mentioned that  portals, apps and digital hubs will also be developed for the promotion, marketing and selling of products and services in international markets. He said, the centre will also help gain expertise required to generate income through e-commerce to reduce reliance on other income streams and move towards a financial independence.
Mian Kashif Ashfaq said that craftsman, designers, entrepreneurs, chambers of commerce, APTMA, SMEDA, allied industries, Pakistan Fashion and Design Council and all stakeholders including talented youth will be involved actively in all its pursuit of achieving the desired results.
The PIFD Vice Chancellor Ms Hina Tayyaba Khalil briefed the participants that entire highly qualified faculty of PIFD will impart training to all students to help run their own e-commerce business in local and foreign markets.
