ISLAMABAD, Dec 10 (APP):The Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) is all set to host an exhibition of Quranic calligraphy and paintings by artist Yusuf Khan.
Mr. Fuad Pashayev, UNESCO Representative to Pakistan, will inaugurate the exhibition on Friday at Gallery No. 6, National Art Gallery, PNCA.
Yusuf Khan began his painting journey at the age of 54 in 2020. Over the past five years, his work has developed in two distinct directions.
The first comprises Quranic calligraphy written in the Kufic script, featuring verses that speak about good social behavior such as kindness, justice, generosity, honesty, and keeping promises.
His calligraphic paintings are minimalist in style, focusing on clarity while using vibrant colors, though the content remains the strongest element.
The second direction of his art consists of monochrome paintings inspired by hardworking men and women he encountered during thirty-six years of working across the country as a civil servant and member of the Pakistan Administrative Service.
He has painted cobblers, watch repairmen, and rural women, all in shades of black and white, against plain yet vibrant backgrounds. These works capture the dignity and resilience of Pakistan’s working class, offering a tribute to individuals who have shaped his perspective during decades of public service.
“These verses have had a significant impact on my life and it is a great pleasure to share them with you,” Khan stated in his artist statement, referring to the Quranic calligraphy that forms a central part of his artistic expression.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until December 19, 2025.
The daily timings are 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with the gallery closed on Saturdays. Art enthusiasts and the general public have a great opportunity to experience this unique intersection of traditional Islamic calligraphy and contemporary social commentary.
