Protection of human rights top priority: CM Maryam

LAHORE, Dec 10 (APP):Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that Islam is the greatest advocate of human rights and that the first comprehensive charter of human rights was delivered in the farewell sermon of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW).
In her message on International Human Rights Day, she said the Prophet (SAW) bestowed humanity with an unparalleled, timeless charter that affirms human dignity beyond distinctions of colour, race, religion, gender or status.
The CM said that respect for human rights is fundamental to the development and prosperity of any society, adding that the protection and promotion of human rights is a core vision and top priority of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N). She noted that ensuring access to education, healthcare, religious freedom and freedom of expression are essential rights, and the Punjab government is actively working to safeguard them.
CM Maryam Nawaz said she envisions a society where every citizen receives equal opportunities, justice and respect. She emphasized that promoting love, respect and tolerance is vital for protecting human rights, as the provision of basic rights is a hallmark of civilized societies and their protection is the foremost responsibility of the state. She said the Punjab government has taken practical steps to eliminate forced labour, ensure religious freedom and provide justice without discrimination. “We reiterate our commitment to protect the human rights of every citizen,” she added.
