4th edition of ‘Aik Kahawat, Aik Kahani’ published; hailed as a powerful contribution to children’s Urdu literature

KARACHI, Dec 09 (APP):The fourth edition of the acclaimed Urdu book “Aik Kahawat, Aik Kahani” by eminent writer Athar Iqbal has been published by Fareed Publisher, marking a major addition to contemporary children’s literature. The latest edition reinforces the book’s reputation as a unique and authoritative resource for introducing young readers to the correct and meaningful use of Urdu proverbs through compelling, story-based narratives.
The National Book Foundation — operating under the Federal Ministry of Education — had earlier recognized the book’s literary merit by selecting it twice, in 2000 and 2001, for its Children’s Literature Promotion Scheme competitions. The repeated recognition underscores the book’s significance in promoting high-quality Urdu learning materials for the youth.
Featuring 101 proverb-based stories across more than 300 pages, the book not only enriches children’s vocabulary but also serves as an essential guide for teachers, students, and adults wishing to strengthen their command of the national language. Athar Iqbal’s concise and research-driven storytelling ensures that each proverb is presented with clarity and depth, enabling readers to grasp and retain its meaning effortlessly.
Prominent literary figures have lauded the book’s impact. Senior broadcaster and journalist Raza Ali Abidi, in his remarks on the book’s preface pages, described it as a noteworthy and timely contribution to children’s literature. Esteemed writers Dr. Rauf Parekh and Mehmood Sham have also commended Athar Iqbal for producing a valuable, research-based literary work that stands out in the field of Urdu education.
The book has additionally been recommended by the Federal Government Educational Institutions (FGEI) for inclusion in institutional libraries, further cementing its status as a key academic and reference resource.
The formal launch ceremony of the book will take place at the Committee Room of the Karachi Press Club on Friday, December 12.
