KARACHI, Dec 08 (APP): Karachi administration’s campaign against violators of official prices of essential commodities continued on Monday.
A meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi was held to review price control campaign.
Additional Commissioner Karachi Ghulam Mehdi Shah, all deputy commissioners, Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Rabia Syed, Assistant Commissioner General Hazim Bangwar, Director Food Authority, officers from the Bureau of Supply, Market Committee Chairman Zaman Jokhio and others attended and briefed on price control efforts being carried out .
Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Rabia Syed presented a report on operations in all districts. The meeting covered the period November 29 to December 5 and recorded actions against 408 violatirs, imposing fines totalling Rs 32 lakh 48 thousand.
The Assistant Commissioner Headquarters said that, following the previous meeting’s decision, action was taken against 31 illegal vendors, shutting down their businesses in the Sabzi Mandi and 17 vendors were arrested for operating without permission and registration.
The Chairman of the Market Committee noted that unregistered vendors have applied for registration and the registration process is underway. The meeting reiterated that unregistered vendors are not permitted to trade in the vegetable and fruit market. All deputy commissioners presented performance details for their districts.
According to the details in district south 100 violators of official prices were fined a total of Rs 8 lakh 32 thousand, in district east 67 were fined Rs 8 lakh 46 thousand, in district central 108 violators faced a fine of Rs 6 lakh 49 thousand, in West district, 12 were fined Rs 81 thousand in Malir district, 45 violators were fined Rs 2 lakh 80 thousand in Korangi district, 45 were fined Rs 4 lakh 87 thousand; and in Kemari district, 34 were fined Rs 86 thousand.
