PESHAWAR, Dec 08 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has said that diabetes is spreading rapidly and silently across society, stressing that timely diagnosis and public awareness are essential to preventing and controlling the disease. He added that the government must introduce effective policies and legislation to strengthen the health sector as well as other fields.
He expressed these views while addressing a seminar on diabetes awareness as the chief guest at the Governor’s House Peshawar on Monday.
The seminar was attended by medical experts including Dr. Janbaz Afridi, Dr. A.H. Aamir, and others, who discussed measures for prevention, treatment, and community awareness regarding diabetes and shared their recommendations.
Commending the organisers and medical professionals for holding the event, the Governor said that active participation of health experts in both treatment and awareness campaigns is highly commendable. He said the Governor’s House is extending full cooperation to improve all sectors.
The Governor said with concern that the number of diabetes patients in Pakistan has crossed 30 million. Many individuals, he added, are living with diabetes without knowing it.
He termed the rising number of cases a growing challenge, adding that although modern technology has facilitated treatment, prevention through awareness and lifestyle changes remains far more effective.
Governor Kundi said diabetes is not only treatable but also largely preventable, and people can protect themselves by adopting healthier routines. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to ensure a healthy, informed, and secure future for Pakistan.
