KHANEWAL, Dec 08 (APP):The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) intensified its anti-smog enforcement drive across the district, demolishing a brick kiln and imposing heavy fines on another besides a rice mill for degrading air quality here on Monday.
Under the supervision of deputy director engineer Sarfaraz Anjum, EPD inspector Muhammad Amjad led the anti-Smog squad in targeted operations against pollution-causing brick kilns and industrial units in Tehsil Mian Channu and Tulamba.
During the crackdown, a brick kiln in Mian Channu was demolished for violating the mandatory Zig-Zag technology requirements. Another kiln was fined Rs100,000 while a rice mill was penalized Rs200,000 for contributing to air pollution.
Deputy Commissioner Maliha Rasheed reaffirmed commitment to curbing smog, stating that strict action without discrimination would continue against all units involved in environmental violations.
She stressed that there would be “zero tolerance” for non-compliance with smog-related SOPs and urged all brick kiln owners and industrial operators to fully adhere to environmental regulations to protect public health and improve air quality.
