LAHORE, Dec 08 (APP): A special seminar on women’s protection, digital safety, and awareness was held at the Blackstone School of Law & Business, here on Monday.
Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) Chairperson Hina Pervaiz Butt, addressing the seminar as the chief guest, said violence against women, whether online or offline, inflicts the same trauma and must be treated with equal seriousness. She noted that domestic abuse, harassment, economic exploitation, street harassment, blackmailing, threats, fake accounts, and digital attacks are all forms of violence that warrant strict and immediate action.
She emphasized that under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, violence against women is not acceptable under any circumstances. She said the Chief Minister had categorically declared women’s safety as a “red line” for the government and the state will not compromise on it.
Hina Pervaiz Butt added that the Punjab Women Protection Authority provides legal, psychological, and protective support to survivors, working in close coordination with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and the FIA to ensure swift action on digital harassment and cyber abuse complaints.
On the occasion, PWPA Director General Kalsum Saqib said the authority is taking practical measures ranging from policy formulation to field-level interventions to combat violence against women. She stressed that awareness, rapid response mechanisms, and strong legal support are essential for effectively addressing the issue.
Hina Pervaiz Butt said that women’s safety cannot be separated into “online” and “offline” categories. “Violence in any form must be countered collectively by the state, its institutions, law-enforcement agencies, educational bodies, and society as a whole,” she said.
Earlier, students of the institute also presented short videos highlighting women’s rights and online safety challenges.
