LAHORE, Dec 06 (APP):The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Immigration Lahore foiled an attempt by a passenger to travel abroad using a fake identity and off-loaded him during immigration clearance.
The passenger, identified as Mehran Ahmed, was attempting to depart for Spain on Qatar Airways flight QR-629. He is a resident of Gujranwala.
During immigration clearance, officials detected that the passenger’s physical appearance did not match the photograph on the passport.
Upon interrogation, the passenger admitted that he himself is a resident of Spain and had previously traveled on his old passport. He further revealed that during the online passport renewal process, he had used his brother’s photograph on the new passport.
The accused intended to later use this passport to illegally take his brother to Spain.
FIA Immigration off-loaded the accused for attempting to travel on a passport obtained through false identification. He has been handed over to the FIA Anti-Human Trafficking Circle, Lahore for further legal proceedings.
The spokesperson added that effective screening measures are in place at airports for biometric and photographic verification of online-renewed passports. Strict actions continue to prevent travel attempts through resemblance fraud, misuse of previous passports, or fake identities, he added.
