LAHORE, Dec 06 (APP):An enforcement team of Punjab Food Authority (PFA) launched strict action against violations of food regulations during an early morning crackdown in Gajjumatta, here on Saturday.
Led by Additional Director General (Operations) Amina Rafiq, the food safety teams inspected 28 food points and suppliers, imposing fines exceeding Rs900,000 on 15 outlets. The teams sealed three dairy shops and discarded more than 1,000 litres of milk, spices and other substandard or prohibited items on the spot. Teams inspected over 50 milk-carrying vehicles, checking nearly 42,000 litres of milk.
PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid said that two units were sealed and two FIRs were registered for involvement in fraudulent activities. He said that poor cleanliness arrangements, foul smell, incomplete medical fitness certificates of employees and missing training records were observed during inspections.
The DG said that despite repeated improvement notices, the operators failed to comply with food safety standards. Processing areas were found in poor condition while storage sections were infested with insects. He added that the discarded items were intended to be supplied to Lahore and its surrounding areas. The DG warned that the use of fake milk and substandard spices can lead to serious illnesses.
He further saud that, in line with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, strict action will continue against those involved in adulteration and fraudulent practices. He has requested citizens to check manufacturing and expiry dates before purchasing any food items.
