US Consul General Lahore meets Punjab agriculture minister

LAHORE, Dec 05 (APP): Punjab Agriculture and Livestock Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani has said that during floods the Agriculture Department provided fodder, straw and silage for animals.
US Consul General Lahore Stetson Sanders held an important meeting with the Punjab Agriculture Minister Agriculture at Agriculture House on Friday.
The minister said that Livestock Department ensured the availability of feed (wunda) and veterinary treatment facilities in flood hit areas.
He said that surveys of flood-affected areas were carried out transparently and compensation payments to the affected households were provided in a short period.
He said, “Till now,  800,000 Punjab Chief Minister  Kisan Cards have been issued, while 9,500 Punjab Chief Minister High-Power Green Tractors are being provided with a subsidy of one million rupees per tractor.”
Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo stated that despite devastating floods, a bumper rice crop was achieved. He added that due to the special measures taken by the Agriculture department this year, incidents of burning crop residues had decreased up to 70 percent.
U.S. Consul General Stetson Sanders said that all emergency disaster response workers and teams made commendable efforts during the floods in Punjab.
