New Secretary irrigation calls on KP Minister

PESHAWAR, Dec 05 (APP): The newly appointed Secretary Irrigation Department, Abdul Basit here on Friday called on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Minister for Irrigation Riaz Khan and discussed ongoing projects.
According to the spokesperson for the Irrigation Department, detailed discussions were held on the department’s administrative affairs, ongoing projects, challenges faced at various district levels in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the future course of action.
Provincial Minister Riaz Khan said that the Irrigation Department is a very important sector linked to the province’s economy, agriculture, and public interest, and that an integrated strategy and effective coordination are essential for its improvement.
He expressed hope that the new secretary would, through his professional abilities, further enhance the department’s performance.
Secretary for Irrigation Abdul Basit thanked the provincial minister for his confidence and said that he would utilize all available resources and administrative capabilities to ensure the timely completion of ongoing projects, accelerate the reform process, and make public-interest initiatives more effective through dedicated efforts.
The provincial minister affirmed that joint efforts would continue to improve the irrigation system in the province, strengthen canal infrastructure, and provide facilities to farmers.
 Riaz Khan said that under the clear directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister Muhammad Sohaib Afridi, a strict and uncompromising anti-corruption policy was in force throughout the province, under which actions were being taken on the basis of zero tolerance.
He said that promoting transparency, accountability and merit in government institutions was the top priority of the provincial government and any government officer or employee found involved in corruption would face legal action without discrimination.
Protecting public resources is the responsibility of the provincial government and all available resources are being utilized for this purpose, he said.
