ISLAMABAD, Dec 05 (APP): Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Friday paid a surprise visit to the Parliament Lodges to inspect progress on the long-delayed construction of 104 additional family suites and servant quarters.
During the visit, the officials from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) briefed the Speaker on the current status of the project, which was launched in 2011 and originally slated for completion in 2013.
The scheme had remained stalled for years due to prolonged negligence and inefficiency on the part of the CDA and its contractors, said a news release issued here.
Speaker Sadiq said the long-pending project was revived through his special efforts.
After assuming office, he formally requested Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to allocate funds for the scheme. Responding to the Speaker’s request, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Finance to release the required funds, which have since been provided.
Emphasizing the urgency of the matter, the Speaker directed the concerned authorities to ensure the timely completion of the project without compromising construction standards.
He highlighted that the years-long delay had caused severe accommodation challenges for Members of Parliament, making swift completion imperative.
The CDA officials assured the Speaker that the additional family suites and servant quarters would be completed by June 2026.
They said that the project has now entered its final phase, owing to the Speaker’s continuous follow-up and clear directives.
