Cannabis regulatory committee holds meeting

PESHAWAR, Dec 04 (APP): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Syed Fakhar Jehan on Thursday chaired the second meeting of medicinal plant “Cannabis” Regulatory Committee here at Excise Department.
Provincial Minister for Health Khaleeq-ur-Rehman, Minister for Law Aftab Alam, Secretary Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control Khalid Ilyas, Director General Excise Abdul Haleem Khan, relevant officers from various wings of the Excise Department, officers of Agriculture, Health, Law and other  departments, Chairman Department of Pharmacy, University of Peshawar Dr Fazal Nasir, Senior Scientific Officer PCSIR Laboratories Dr Hira Fazal, subject specialist Dr Sarwar Ismail, Deputy Commissioner Khyber, Additional Advocate General KP and other concerned officers attended.
The forum reviewed multiple aspects of responsibilities assigned to regulatory committee under the rules and procedures approved by the provincial cabinet for the medicinal, research-based and other beneficial uses of cannabis.
A comprehensive briefing was given to the committee that covered matters related to the issuance of licenses and other departmental responsibilities in mandate of excise department.
Provincial ministers, committee members and experts present in the meeting shared valuable suggestions and presented their views to strengthen and systematize the regulatory framework.
On the occasion, Committee Chairman and Provincial Minister for Excise Syed Fakhar Jehan directed formation of a subcommittee comprising officers from all relevant departments and institutions under the headship of Director General Excise.
 It was decided that the necessary documentation of matters in connection of issuance of licenses for the medicinal plant “Hemp” would be prepared and submitted to the cabinet for approval.
The committee decided that newly constituted subcommittee for matters regarding medicinal plant cannabis would complete homework and formulate detailed recommendations.
