Dera Ismail Khan , Dec 04 (APP):Hospital Director of the District Headquarters (DHQ) Teaching Hospital Dera Ismail Khan, Dr. Farrukh Jameel, has said that significant advancements in the local healthcare system are underway.
While talking to APP, he said the construction of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) established for Rs 725.819 million to provide free treatment to heart patients has been completed. The facility will offer free angiography, angioplasty, and stent placement for cardiac patients, he added.
Dr. Jameel said that a Kidney Centre is also being set up with funding of Rs 1 billion, where renal patients will receive free dialysis, kidney-related treatment services, and support for transplantation procedures.
He said the Women and Children Hospital (formerly Zanana Hospital) has been allocated Rs 1.5 billion to enhance medical services for women and children. A state-of-the-art mammography unit (Mammo Machine), the second such facility in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after Peshawar, has already been installed for free breast cancer screening. The unit has also been equipped with an advanced ultrasound machine.
The Hospital Director added that DHQ Hospital, previously a 242-bed facility, has now been upgraded to 600 beds due to the efforts of former Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and MNA Faisal Amin Gandapur. The official notification of the upgraded capacity has been issued, and the hospital will now receive government funding accordingly.
Dr. Farrukh Jameel said that during the past month alone, over 50,000 patients from Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Lakki Marwat, all local tehsils, Darya Khan, Angoor Adda, Wana, Waziristan, and Zhob received medical services at the DHQ Teaching Hospital. These services included OPD consultations, emergency care, labour room procedures, and various surgeries.
He said the ongoing development of healthcare facilities would significantly benefit patients across the region and reduce the burden on major hospitals in other cities.
