ISLAMABAD, Dec 03 (APP):Two people were injured on Wednesday when a speeding, unlicensed Vigo driver struck a motorcycle at Islamabad’s Serena Chowk.
An official told APP that the collision occurred when the Vigo driver, who did not possess a valid driving licence, allegedly changed lanes abruptly and hit the motorcycle, causing both riders to fall onto the road with serious injuries. Rescue teams reached the scene immediately, provided first aid and shifted the injured to PIMS Hospital, where treatment is under way.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after receiving information and took the vehicle and its driver into custody. During inspection, a weapon was recovered from the Vigo, while the driver  failed to present any driving licence or identification documents. The vehicle was seized, and further legal action has been initiated.
A police official said the incident is being investigated from all angles. Evidence from the scene has been collected, and statements of witnesses are being recorded.
Hospital officials confirmed that both injured men are under treatment and remain under medical observation.
Several citizens expressed their concerns over the incident.
Tahir Azad, a government employee who crosses Serena Chowk daily, told APP that motorcyclists are frequently stopped by police for licence checks, “but large vehicles often go unchecked, which raises questions about equal enforcement.”
Another Islamabad resident, Syed Wajeeh-ul-Hassan, said the recovery of a weapon from the vehicle was alarming. “Islamabad Police are running an effective campaign against illegal arms — which is commendable — but a weapon emerging from a vehicle on such an important route is a matter of concern.”
Ahmad, another government employee standing near the affected vehicle, said non-licensed drivers were becoming a major cause of road accidents. “In the recent case where two women lost their lives after being hit by a V8, the driver also had no licence,” he said.
He further hoped that Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) Chief Traffic Officer Humayun — whose performance has been widely appreciated — would take notice of the matter and continue strict enforcement against unlicensed drivers.
Police said investigations are underway and assured that strict legal action would be taken against those responsible.
