ISLAMABAD, Dec 3 (APP): The elite Search and Rescue team of Pakistan Army has been dispatched to Sri Lanka to assist after the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditva.
A special Pakistan Air Force C-130 aircraft transported the team to Sri Lanka. Pakistan Navy and Aviation units have already engaged in surveillance, medical evacuation, and rescue operations in Sri Lanka, said a statement issued here.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also sent 200 tons of relief goods to Sri Lanka via ship to support the people of Sri Lanka.
Prime Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif also held a discussion with the Sri Lankan President yesterday. The PM is also in contact with the leadership of other affected countries Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia.
NDMA is ready to send additional relief supplies through Sri Lankan Airlines flights operating from Colombo to Lahore. At the request of the Sri Lankan President, NDMA will provide essential equipment for flood-affected areas, including the Pakistan Army’s folding bridge.
Despite obstacles, Pakistan continues to deliver relief supplies to support Sri Lanka’s flood victims.
