ISLAMABAD, Dec 02 (APP):The Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) hosted a courtesy meeting today with Ms. Christine Allan Arab, Regional Director, UN Women Asia–Pacific, during her visit to Islamabad.
The meeting was also attended by MNAs Ms. Rana Ansar, Ms. Mah Jabeen Khan Abbasi, Ms. Huma Akhter Chughtai, and Ms. Naeema Kishwar Khan along with Mr. Jamshed Kazi, Country Representative, UN Women Pakistan, along with members of the UN Women team.
The WPC leadership, led by Dr. Shahida Rehmani, Secretary WPC, welcomed the delegation and appreciated UN Women’s continued support to the Caucus in strengthening gender-responsive legislation, capacity building of women parliamentarians, and institutional development of WPC at national and provincial levels.
During the meeting, the WPC shared highlights of its recent achievements, including the strengthening of Provincial WPC chapters across Pakistan, the successful organisation of the National Women’s Convention 2025, national dialogues on gender-based violence, gender-responsive budgeting, and women’s political participation, as well as hosting the country’s first International Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Workshop.
The WPC also presented its Annual Report 2024–25, documenting these milestones and showcasing collective progress toward a more inclusive and gender-responsive parliamentary environment.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Rehmani said, “Our work goes beyond legislation — it is about ensuring women’s voices, rights, and dignity are upheld at every level. Partnering with UN Women has played a central role in advancing this mission, and we look forward to further deepening our collaboration.”
Ms. Arab commended the WPC for its leadership and reiterated UN Women’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s efforts toward gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Looking ahead, both sides emphasized the importance of strengthened cooperation in the areas of domestic violence legislation, gender data systems, and improved follow-up mechanisms for laws and policies affecting women.
