PESHAWAR, Dec 02 (APP):Paraplegic Center Peshawar (PCP) will host the central ceremony of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Wednesday, bringing together leading institutions, rehabilitation experts, and social sector representatives for a day dedicated to disability inclusion and empowerment.
This year’s global theme, “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress,” will guide the proceedings, underscoring the importance of an inclusive, accessible, and equitable environment for persons with disabilities (PwDs) across the country.
The ceremony will feature Provincial Health Minister Mian Khaliq-ur-Rahman as the chief guest, reflecting the provincial govt’s commitment to strengthening rehabilitation systems and promoting inclusive health care.
About the upcoming event, CEO PCP Dr. Syed Mohammad Ilyas said that the occasion provides a vital platform to highlight the challenges faced by PwDs and to emphasize the significance of comprehensive medical, rehabilitative, psychological and social support services.
He noted that ensuring dignity, empowerment and equal opportunities for PwDs is essential for their fuller participation in society and for their contribution to national development.
Dr. Ilyas Syed added that PCP, in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and with the active involvement of institutions and welfare bodies such as Khyber Medical University, the College of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and Akbar Child Care, Friends of Paraplegics, remains committed to advancing disability-inclusive development. “Our vision is to build a society where every individual, regardless of their physical limitations, can thrive, participate meaningfully, and live with dignity and respect,” he said.
