QUETTA, Dec 01 (APP): Commissioner Quetta Division, Shahzaib Khan Kakar on Monday emphasized on improving the city’s traffic management system and relocating urban dairy farms to designated areas outside the city.
Senior officials, including Deputy Commissioner Quetta Mehrullah Badini, SSP Traffic Police Quetta, the Director Traffic Engineering Bureau, Secretary Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Quetta, Assistant Commissioner (Political) Syed Kaleemullah, and representatives from other relevant departments attended the session.
During the briefing, officials informed the Commissioner that multiple initiatives are ongoing to streamline traffic flow across the provincial capital. These include management of peak-hour congestion, expansion of the Green Bus Route, restrictions on Chingchi rickshaws, and action against unregistered and illegal rickshaws.
Authorities reported that a new policy for rickshaw regulation is being developed to make the traffic system more efficient. The Green Bus Route is planned to be extended from Kuchlak Police Station to Sona Khan Police Station, Sariab Road.
As part of modernization efforts, surveillance cameras have been installed at 45 key locations across Quetta. These will be activated under a pilot project aimed at enhancing real-time monitoring and traffic control.
The meeting also reviewed measures restricting the entry of rickshaws and Chingchi vehicles into the Central Business District (CBD) to reduce congestion.
Commissioner Kakar instructed concerned departments to devise a clear operational framework for the pilot traffic project. He directed them to consider zone-wise identification systems using special stickers or color coding. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive plan for peak-hour traffic and ordered continued strict action against encroachments.
He added that policies governing entry of electric rickshaws into the CBD and facilitating citizens’ access to designated bus terminals would significantly improve public transport convenience.
“Ensuring smooth traffic flow and citizen convenience is the government’s top priority. All departments must expedite their efforts,” the Commissioner said.
Commissioner Shahzaib Kakar also reviewed progress on shifting dairy farms out of Quetta’s residential and commercial areas. Officials from the Dairy Farm Association, Livestock Department, Quetta Development Authority (QDA), and other agencies participated.
The meeting assessed steps taken so far and decided that QDA and the relevant association will jointly identify suitable locations outside the city. A formal report is to be submitted within one week.
