PESHAWAR, Dec 01 (APP):The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Peshawar has uncovered a dangerous blackmailing network following a complaint filed by a woman.
The agency registered a case, arrested the suspect and initiated further investigation.
According to NCCIA officials on Monday, the complaint was filed on November 25 by the brother of the victim, Haris Masaleh. During the investigation, the woman revealed that the accused, Imran, contacted her and lured her into trusting him by falsely promising marriage. He then obtained her photos and videos, which he later used for blackmail.
The accused also demanded Rs 2 million from the woman’s brother and brother-in-law, Mujeeb, threatening to release her videos on websites and share them with family members if the money was not paid. Evidence showed that the suspect even sent one of the videos to her brother-in-law to pressure them into paying the extortion amount.
The suspect later called the woman to meet him at Tatara Park in Hayatabad where NCCIA officers conducted a sting operation and arrested him. Authorities recovered an iPhone 12 Pro Max, which contained the victim’s videos, as well as the phone used to share the content. WhatsApp chat records were also retrieved.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he worked as a CCTV operator at PIC Hospital Peshawar and investigators discovered additional secret videos of women from the hospital’s female ward raising serious concerns about privacy violations.
All recovered devices and digital evidence have been sent to the forensic laboratory. A criminal case has been registered against Imran, and investigations are underway to identify any other individuals involved in the network.
