RAWALPINDI, Nov 30 (APP): An awareness campaign to eliminate the use of plastic bags and products is underway in Murree under the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Bilal Yameen Satti, accompanied by Assistant Commissioner (AC) Murree Faisal Ahmed, on Sunday conducted visits to markets, shops, hotels and tourist sites to educate citizens, shopkeepers and tourists about the harmful effects of plastic.
MPA Satti said plastic “not only pollutes the environment but also diminishes the natural beauty of tourist destinations,” stressing that reducing its use had become a pressing necessity. He emphasized that maintaining Murree as a clean and plastic-free tourist destination was a shared responsibility.
Awareness material was distributed, and the use of eco-friendly bags was encouraged. Authorities also set up information stalls across the town to brief the public on the environmental hazards of plastic.
Locals and tourists welcomed the initiative, describing it as vital for both environmental protection and preserving the scenic charm of Murree.
