LAHORE, Nov 29 (APP): Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the growing challenges in the health sector, stressing that comprehensive reforms and development projects are underway across the province.
He expressed these views while speaking at an awareness conference organized by the
Institute of Public Health (IPH) at a local hotel on Saturday.
The minister lauded the efforts of the IPH administration for arranging the conference on a
vital topic and said the prime objective of the event was to promote knowledge sharing among participants.
Highlighting key health concerns, he said society is currently grappling with vector-borne diseases, environmental hazards, rising cases of non-communicable diseases, and issues related to maternal and child health.
“The Punjab government is determined to overcome these challenges,” he added.
The minister said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has placed the health sector at the top of her priorities. Under her leadership, several new hospitals are being constructed in various cities. These include the 915-bed Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research in Lahore, the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology in Lahore, and the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology in Sargodha.
“All available resources are being utilized to improve healthcare delivery and provide the best medical facilities to the public,” he said, adding that a healthy society is essential for national development.
He praised the Institute of Public Health for its significant role in strengthening the foundations of a healthier society and noted its outstanding performance this year.
During the event, the provincial health minister distributed honorary shields among distinguished guests.
Special Secretary Development (SHC&ME) Benish Fatima Sahi, Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Prof Mahmood Ayaz, Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, IPH Dean Prof Saira Afzal Tarar, Prof Zarfashan Tahir, Prof Majeed Chaudhry, and numerous medical experts attended the conference. Global Public Health Expert Miss Kathleen Skinner was also present.
