Gilani pays tribute to PPP’s historic role in defending democracy, advancing people’s rights

ISLAMABAD, Nov 29 (APP): Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has extended heartfelt felicitations to the leadership, workers and supporters of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) on the occasion of its 58th Foundation Day, paying tribute to the Party’s historic role in defending democracy and advancing the rights of the people.
In a statement on Saturday, the Chairman Senate stated that the PPP, founded under the visionary leadership of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and strengthened by the enduring struggle and sacrifices of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, has always stood firm as a symbol of democratic resilience. “The PPP has been at the forefront of safeguarding the Constitution, upholding human rights, and promoting democratic values,” he noted.
Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani also highlighted the significant role of President Asif Ali Zardari, whose leadership during a critical chapter of Pakistan’s political history, helped restore the Constitution, strengthen Parliament and reinforce democratic norms. He praised President Zardari’s policy of reconciliation, which steered the country toward political stability and institutional harmony.
He further commended the dynamic leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who has reinvigorated the Party with new energy and a progressive vision. He said that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s commitment to youth empowerment, diplomacy, and inclusive development reflects the Party’s forward-looking approach and its dedication to a modern, democratic Pakistan.
Highlighting the PPP’s unwavering struggle for women’s emancipation, labour rights and inclusive governance, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani stated that the Party’s progressive agenda and commitment to social justice had laid the foundation for long-lasting reforms. “The PPP has consistently championed the rights of the marginalized and upheld democratic principles even in the face of immense challenges,” he added.
The Chairman Senate reaffirmed the resolve to continue strengthening democratic institutions and working for a peaceful, prosperous, and inclusive Pakistan. He said the spirit of the PPP’s founding ideals continues to inspire hope and unity across the nation.
He congratulated the Party leadership and workers and expressed confidence that the Pakistan Peoples’ Party would continue to play a pivotal role in advancing democracy, protecting fundamental rights, and promoting national cohesion.
